Omaha, or Omaha Hold'em is "the other" holdem. The game can be found at both land based and online poker rooms, but it is much less popular than Texas Hold'em. Texas Hold'em is a 7-card game, but Omaha is a 9-card game. Like Texas Hold'em, Omaha games can be played with these different limits and betting rules:
  • Limit – Limits each game and round are preset, based on the base limits. Example a $.50/$1.00 game has a $.50 Blind for the 1st round of bets and raises are in $.50 increments. and subsequent rounds are upped to $1.00 bets.

  • Pot Limit – The poker player can bet chips, upto an amount equal to the total pot at the time of their bet.

  • No Limit – Players can bet as much as they have on the table.

Omaha Hold'em Explained:

  1. 2 players to the left of the dealer place a 'Small Blind' and 'Big Blind' (blind, a bet before seeing a hand) bet, which for a $.50/$1.00 game is $.25 and $.50 respectively.

  2. Following the Blind bets each player is dealt 4 cards face down.

  3. The player to the left of the Button. 1st bet goes to the “Big Blind” bettor.

  4. “The Flop”, the first 3 cards that are dealt face up, are placed in the center of the table.

  5. A new round of betting,

  6. The fourth card (the Turn) is placed face up with the Flop cards.

  7. There is another round of betting,

  8. The last card, or “The River” card is placed face up in the middle.

  9. There is the final round of betting.
